There are both many advantages and disadvantages of t 111 wood siding. In fact, T 111 siding used to be one of the most commonly used types of sidings on homes, sheds, and garages in the 1970′s through the 1980′s. However, over the last two years usage of this type of siding has decreased for a few key reasons.
Advantages of T 111 Wood Siding
One of the main advantages that that installing t 111 siding is very simple. It does not take very long to perform the installation process, nor is it extremely difficult, which lowers the installation costs and time required to put up the siding on your home or shed.
Another advantage of T111 siding is that is it cheap. Relative to other forms of siding it is cheaper, and this cost savings is not just in the installation costs and time. Mainly, the cost advantage comes in the materials itself, making this a nice option for people who are in need of the low-cost alternative.
Disadvantages of T111 Siding
Unfortunatly, there are several key issues that people have with T 111 materials. The main problem with this siding is that it is very prone to weather damage (i.e. water damage). The siding panels are not protected by anything really except the paint, so if you don’t have a good water proof paint coat over the siding then you are in trouble. If this happens then the panels will delaminate, causing damage to the siding and possibly to your home or shed as well. This is the main reason why this siding is not used much anymore on homes.
When to Use T111
Basically, the best place to use this siding is on small projects such as smaller sheds that you are looking to build and save some money. It is not recommended to use T 111 wood siding on your home due to the weather-related problems and hassle it would be to maintain the integrity of the home.
