Choosing A Cooker For Your Home

Choosing the right cooker for your home is an important decision. You can buy single, double and range cookers depending on your needs, and they all offer something a bit different. If you have limited space in your kitchen then a single oven cooker is the best option. Most of these can fit easily into the counter top space and usually have a 4 burner hob on the top. White and black are the most common colours for cookers, although stainless steel is becoming popular as well.

If you are serious about cooking then you could look for commercial style home cookers that have 6 or 8 hobs, double ovens and grilling features. For these designs you may have to increase the ventilation and power supply. You will also need a pretty large kitchen area to accommodate them. Argos has a very good range of double ovens with multiple burners at the moment at reasonable prices. Modular cook tops are another alternative and you can add a whole host of accessories such as rotisseries, extra hobs and steamers.

You will need to decide what type of fuel to run your cooker on. Electric has the advantage of being cheaper ton run, and convection ovens supply instant heat that cooks food much quicker than gas. Other people prefer a gas burner or hob as the heat is more controllable. You could of course have the best of both worlds and opt for a dual fuel cooker. These usually have an electric oven and gas hob. Electric burners come in 3 main types, coils beneath the surface, halogen heating and magnetic induction heating. The advantage of electric is that it cools down much faster than gas after use, which can be handy if you have children around the kitchen.

The controls are another feature to look for. Safety is an important consideration if you have kids, and you may want to look for a cooker with the controls on the back splash, which makes it harder for kids to reach up an accidentally turn the hob on. The argos catalogue has cookers and hobs with built in safety features, so look for these designs. Touch pad controls are also very popular and easy to use, and are found on the most modern cookers. Whichever style you choose you will be spoilt for choice, as there are thousands on the market.
