Interior design can be a challenging feat, but it doesn’t always have to be. There are some simple things that you can do that will make a big impact on your home. Also, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to improve the appearance of your home. In this post I want to share some easy things that I’ve done to my home that have improved not only its appearance, but also its value!
An easy place to start is with the doors. Changing your regular brass doorknobs to a fancy crystal doorknob is both easy and affordable. You can find these at salvage sales and antique dealers to save a lot of money. They are also available new, but you probably will spend more and get lower quality but they are also available that way. Closet knobs are also extremely easy and affordable to change. These are both things that you can do yourself, so there is no installation fees, so you save money there as well.
Another simple upgrade are all of the light switch and electrical covers. Most of these are boring off-white covers, and it only costs a few bucks to swap them out. If you’re feeling particularly handy, you can change the light switches in the bathrooms and bedrooms to dimmer switches for enhanced mood lighting. Again, this is something that you can easily do yourself.
My favorite thing that makes a big impact is changing out the heater vents. There are many different creative designs that are a huge change from the standard white vents that come standard with most homes. Geometric designs are common, but there are tons of different choices. You can also get vents that have allergen filters built right into them to improve the air quality inside your home.
Improving the interior of your home doesn’t have to cost a fortune. These four simple things can make a big interior design improvement in your home. You can do it yourself to save even more money!
