When it comes to lawn tools, many people are unfamiliar with some of the tools that can make lawn care a lot easier to manage. Most are familiar with a lawnmower, or course, which is used to cut the grass, but what about a lawn sweeper or even a lawn roller? These are two tools that can help make maintaining your yard a lot easier.
Sweepers are basically a cross between a vacuum cleaner and a lawnmower. The device is pushed along the lawn, or towed along the back of a lawnmower or tractor and its function is to pick up leaves, twigs and other small debris. So, just as you would suck up dirt from a carpet with a vacuum cleaner, the sweeper sucks up “dirt” (leaves and other debris) from the carpet of grass on your lawn. While not every homeowner needs one of these tools, they make yard clean up easier than using a rake and having to bend and lift piles of heavy leaves when it is time to clean up the yard.
Rollers, on the other hand, are used for a different purpose to keep your lawn looking lush and healthy. This tool has a weighted cylinder on the bottom that rolls along the ground and is attached to a handle that is used to push or pull the cylinder. The weight of the roller is used to flatten out the ground. This is helpful for when new grass seed is being planted so that it can adhere well to the underlying soil so that the roots have the best chance of growing strong, and is also good for new sod layment as well. The tool can also help smooth out bumps and dips in the yard, providing a smooth surface for the lawn.
Sweepers and rollers are two of the lesser known lawn tools available to homeowners, but they are both devices that can make lawn maintenance a whole lot easier than using rakes and shovels.
